Holiday Insurance Reminders
Insurance for the holidays
As the calendar turns, we’re greeted with the holiday season and winter weather. While there is nothing as beautiful as a winter wonderland and homes filled with warmth and laughter over the holidays, this time of the year also brings increased traffic, and weather-related accidents and potential claims.
Many people feel more rushed and pressed for time this time of year. While we can’t control the weather, we can do our best for safe travel by planning ahead. This includes checking the weather forecast prior to a long trip so we can be prepared for inclement weather. Also, give yourself plenty of time for travel. Even if you are taking a trip that you have made many times before, increased traffic and people in a hurry can create more difficulty for those trips. Remember, it’s okay to arrive early! During the holiday season, it’s easy to get busy buying gifts and planning meals. Usually, routine vehicle maintenance is the farthest thing from our minds this time of year. This can lead to unexpected delays while on the road. As the weather changes, it’s a great time to take your vehicle in for routine maintenance. A weak battery or worn tires can leave you stranded and behind your already busy schedule. It’s also a good time to check with your insurance agent and make sure that you have roadside coverage on your vehicles to ensure if something does happen, you can rest easy as you know help is on the way!
Lastly, but most importantly, remember to slow down this holiday season and be grateful and kind to those around you. Whether you’re driving to family for the holidays or they’re coming to you, you or your loved ones will be sharing the road with many people who are also just trying to spend the holiday with their family. In the unfortunate event of an accident, make sure you have your vehicle insurance documents readily available including contact information for your agent and the claims department for your insurance company.
Pay attention while on the road, slow down, avoid the urge to text your relatives your progress on the road while driving, and do the best you can to provide safe travel for you and others on the road. Leave plenty of space between you and other vehicles and be prepared for the unexpected. We can’t predict the weather or the traffic, but we can be prepared to do our best to keep everyone safe. Enjoy the changing of the seasons and the celebrations that come with it!
