Speaking of Spooky Season….Online Insurance Quotes! 😱

 In Ozarks Live

If you purchase a jacket online and it doesn’t fit, you can just return it. Well, if you purchase insurance that “doesn’t fit” your family or your lifestyle, you most likely won’t know that it’s the wrong fit until after you’ve been in a accident or had damage to your home.

It could cost you thousands of dollars. Scary, right?? 👻

The World Wide Web is perfect for shopping for clothes, sharing pictures, and doing research–but I would like to explain why it’s not good for buying Insurance.

Why Do Companies Offer Online Insurance Quotes?

There are lots of options in the insurance market place and they are all selling the exact same thing: RISK. Insurance Companies hire super-duper smart people to analyze all the data to decide if you’re more of a risk than your neighbor.  If you are, they will charge you more. If not, they will charge you less!

Now, I’m not saying that companies who offer online quotes are inherently distrustful. There are many well-regarded insurance providers who offer online quotes.

When it comes to getting insurance or changing companies, there are a lot of options, which means that shopping can feel:

  • Confusing
  • Complicated
  • Time-Consuming
  • Expensive 😬

To negate these concerns, some providers will offer online quotes for people who are struggling to get through the process. The major benefits of online insurance quotes are that they’re available 24/7 and you can (usually) customize your coverage.

BUT there are also some major drawbacks to consider before you sign the dotted line.

4 Reasons Why You Should Avoid Online Insurance Quotes

#1: Online Insurance Quotes Can Be a Bait & Switch

Insurance policies are not legally binding until you sign the paperwork. So in a lot of cases, your quote will be an amazing deal and you decide to hop right on it. But once you start getting into the conversation, you’ll often find out that the quote is more of a “best-case” scenario–and then it SKYROCKETS when you get the final numbers. This happens because companies access your risk to create the price.  For many online quotes, this factor is left out until the end.

#2: Unnecessary Coverage

Generic quotes oftentimes mean that you get a generic policy. Unfortunately, that means that you’ll sometimes be you’re covered for scenarios that you don’t need and are never going to use. This means that your monthly fees or your premium are going to be higher than they need to be.

#3: 1-800 Phone Numbers

When you get a 1-800 number, you’re usually talking to someone who is unfamiliar with your policy and is just following a company script or protocol. They don’t necessarily understand your location, needs, or know how to customize it so you’re not overpaying for coverage you won’t use. At The Resource Center, we tailor each policy so that you’ll get the best deal for the coverage that you’ll actually need.

#4: SPAM CALLS ⚠️

One of my pet peeves! Sometimes when you sign up for an online quote or respond to a mail-in advertisement, you’re unknowingly submitting your phone number to a database. Soon enough, your voicemail will be full and agents will be texting you all throughout the day to compete for your business.

What is an Independent Agent?

As an independent insurance agency, The Resource Center can represent multiple insurance carriers. Because we’re not exclusive to one single provider, we can compare your quote with multiple companies to see who will give you the best deal for your budget.
